At the same time as the All Japan Amateur Shooto Championships, the 2nd Odawara Jiu-Jitsu Open Tournament of the JBJJF in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was held on Sunday in the Odawara Arena. And if you are in Japan anyway, you might as well take a tournament with you. This thought paid off for Sven Fortenbacher of the German Top Team. He won gold in his weight class in the blue belt category and bronze in the absolute class. Both times he had to fight against a fighter from the host Roots Gym of MMA legend Rumina Sato. While in his weight class he could finish the hard final fight after about four and a half minutes by submission with Mata Leao, he had to give up in the Absolute Class against a 15 kg heavier opponent by a wristlock. This was the first tournament of Sven Fortenbacher at the blue belts and we may congratulate at this point again to the new graduation.
His coach Peter Angerer competed in the Blackbelts and met the Asian champion Takaaki Okamoto in the Absolute Class, to which he lost with 0:2 points, after he had won gold in his weight class without a fight.
